I came across this article entitled, "Lipstick Jungle" in the WSJ and I though there might be others interested in this topic:

Just a warning that some folks may find this article disturbing.

Although, my daughter has a ways to go before considering college, I wonder all the time what colleges would be suitable for a young woman who has respect for herself and her modesty.

The above article confirmed the stories and the fears that I had about the degradation of the college culture at many institutions.  I thought things were racy in my days in college (that was 20 years ago).  Living in NYC for most of my life, I had considered myself fairly cosmopolitan, but getting drunk to a stupor and experimenting with drugs was not why I was going to college.  Sadly, there weren't many who had the same views.  According to this article things have gotten worse at many colleges, and this may be of particular concern for young women.

A couple of institutions such as Hillsdale College in Michigan and Patrick Henry College in Purcellville, Virginia were mentioned as places imbracing traditional values with women's groups that provide support.   I hope by the time my kids go to college that there will be more options for higher education without the "confusing nonsense."

I want to note that the author's sense of "traditional values" comes from a conservative christian stance.  There is nothing wrong with this, but my traditional values has more to do with modesty, abstaining from alcohol and drugs.  Alcohol is ok in moderation, but to drink for sport is, in my opinion, is idiotic.
