Here's a fun challenge--turn off the TV and have a game night with your family and friends.  Check out The Million Minute Family Challenge for ideas and then record the total number of minutes your group spends playing board games.  The goal is for 1,000,000 minutes to be recorded across the United States from the beginning of September to the end of December.

From the site's FAQ:
Why participate in the Million Minute Family Challenge?
When parents play board games with their children, they are accomplishing more than providing entertainment. Playing board games teaches lessons in sharing and communication. It also helps establish a secure and trusting relationship between parent and child, which is a key part of a child’s development.

Why play board games?
Board games are the perfect fun activity for family and friends of all ages. They help the youngest players develop social skills including following rules, fair play and good sportsmanship. As children grow, board games can help sharpen vocabulary, spelling, math, creative writing and critical thinking skills, all under the appearance of having fun.
We're signing up today and hopefully will get a couple rounds of Risk in before the end of the year.  Any board game counts--when's the last time you played a game as a family?

My boys, particularly ds8, love board games. My dh is the game player, but frankly I hate to play board games and use any excuse to get out of it :? Since my kids play fairly often, I would rather make something like reading into minute-counting for rewards. We have a huge collection if anyone wants recommendations as to what 7-11 year old boys like!
